The short version

An inline, cold step that meets your Juice HACCP 5-log

FloUV® sits between your press and your filler and treats cider as it flows, with no heat and no batch holds. It delivers a validated greater-than-5-log reduction to meet the FDA Juice HACCP requirement, runs from 640 to 5000 liters per hour (about 169 to 1321 US gallons per hour), and scales by adding identical reactor stacks. The fit is any orchard, cidery, or apple juice producer that wants a documented safety step without a thermal kill step or sending product out for batch high-pressure processing.

Why FloUV® for cider

Food safety without giving up fresh-pressed character

Turbid and cloudy products like fresh apple cider can be difficult to treat with UV light. Conventional thin-film systems struggle to deliver a uniform dose, and require filtration of the product. FloUV® solves this with a patented reactor that keeps the cider moving and mixing through the UV-C field, so every drop receives a controlled, verified dose. The result is a process that hits commercial food-safety targets while keeping the cider tasting the way it did coming off the press.

Validated 5-log reduction

Greater than 5-log reduction of E. coli O157:H7 in fresh cider under continuous flow, with strong inactivation across Salmonella and other juice pathogens. Meets the FDA Juice HACCP requirement under 21 CFR 179.39.

Fresh flavor and nutrients kept

FloUV® treats cider with UV-C light at ambient temperature. Published and internal studies show retention of polyphenols, vitamins, natural color, and fresh-pressed sensory character after validated treatment.

Any package you want

FloUV® treats cider inline before filling, so you keep full freedom over format, including glass jugs, glass bottles, and aluminum cans. The fully electric system needs no boiler, steam, or heating medium to run.

Models

FloUV® Apple Cider Pasteurization System

Five standard models scale from a single-stack pilot or small-orchard system up to high-volume production. Throughput shown for fresh apple cider; product-specific validation is recommended to confirm dose at your absorbance.

FloUV® systems come in two variants. Core models deliver the validated UV-C dose at a lower entry price. Advanced models add the UV intensity (UVI) sensor and flow diversion valve, for real-time dose monitoring and automatic recirculation of any under-dosed product.

North American electrical configured: 460 to 480 VAC, 60 Hz, 3-phase, plus 220 to 240 VAC single-phase control supply. Site utilities: potable water for CIP and flushing, clean dry control air at 3 to 6 bar, oil-free CIP air at 2 to 3 bar, and a facility drain. Specifications are approximate and subject to engineering review. Ask us about current factory lead times.

Right-size it

Start with a single-stack FloUV-640 and add identical reactor stacks as your volume grows. Size to the throughput you actually run and to your cider’s absorbance, not to a number you might hit in five years.

A complete, plug-in-ready skid

Every FloUV® system arrives as an integrated skid built around the patented UV-C reactor, ready to drop between your press and your filler.

Hydraulic and flow

Product balance tank, feed pump with variable frequency drive, distribution and collection manifolds, sanitary valves, and tri-clamp connections. Advanced models add a flow diversion valve.

UV-C processing

Patented FloUV® reactor stacks, high-transmittance specialized process tubing, long-life amalgam UV-C lamps, and electronic ballasts. Advanced models add a UV intensity sensor with dose verification.

Controls and electrical

PLC control with color HMI, flow, pressure, temperature and conductivity transmitters, automated FDV logic, safety interlocks, and the main control panel with emergency stop.

On Advanced models, a UV intensity sensor watches the reactor in real time, and any under-dosed product recirculates back to the feed tank until it meets target.

A reactor engineered for opaque cider

The reactor keeps cider moving and mixing as it passes through the UV-C field, so a controlled, verified dose reaches every drop even in a liquid this dark. The wetted path and lamps are built for continuous food production and validated cleaning.

Tested on real, unfiltered apple cider

A pilot-scale FloUV® reactor running at 320 liters per hour validated performance in fresh, unfiltered apple cider (254 nm absorbance of 12.31 per centimeter). Because commercial FloUV® systems are built from identical reactor stacks in parallel, pilot results scale directly to full production.

Results are based on controlled pilot-scale testing and may vary by product and process conditions. Product-specific validation is recommended. Frequently asked questions

Is FloUV® accepted under FDA Juice HACCP?

UV light is permitted for treating fruit juice under 21 CFR 179.39, and Juice HACCP calls for a validated 5-log reduction of the pathogen of greatest concern. In fresh cider, FloUV® demonstrated greater than 5-log reduction of E. coli O157:H7 under continuous flow. Process validation, regulatory acceptance, and labeling decisions remain the responsibility of the processor and can vary by jurisdiction, so confirm with your process authority or an accredited lab. We help you document the system for your own HACCP plan.

Does UV-C pasteurization change the taste of my cider?

FloUV® treats cider with UV-C light at ambient temperature, so there are no heating or cooling cycles. Published studies and internal evaluations show retention of polyphenols, vitamins, natural color, and fresh-pressed sensory character after validated treatment. The goal of the system is food safety that holds onto the fresh-pressed taste customers expect.

Will it work with my packaging?

Yes. FloUV® treats the cider inline before it reaches your filler, so you keep full freedom over format, including glass jugs, glass bottles, and aluminum cans. Treated cider is a fresh, cold-chain product and should be handled refrigerated like any fresh-pressed cider.

How much cider can it handle?

Standard models run from 640 to 5000 liters per hour (roughly 169 to 1321 US gallons per hour). The system scales by adding identical reactor stacks, so you can start with a single-stack FloUV-640 and grow capacity later.

Where does FloUV® fit in my line?

It sits between pressing and filling as a continuous inline step. Juicing Systems can scope FloUV® as a standalone addition to an existing line or as part of a complete press-to-fill build, and our team supports installation, training, and ongoing service across Canada and the US.

Do you offer thermal options too?

Yes. Juicing Systems carries a full range of pasteurizing equipment, including HTST, bath, and chamber systems. FloUV® is the UV-C option for producers who want an ambient-temperature, inline process for fresh apple cider and apple juice. We will help you choose the right fit for your product and volume.
